Most siblings share an ‘irrefutable bond’ and nothing epitomizes that particular adage more than the fraternal duo of Chargers student-athletes Kathryn and Dennis Candell who stand out as the first brother-sister twosome to play different sports at Camosun over the same year.

At the conclusion of the first half of the PACWEST basketball and volleyball season, the Chargers student-athletes are turning their focus to exams, chilling over the mid-season break and preparing for the New Year ahead.

The opening half of the PACWEST volleyball season has been a fast and furious one for the Chargers men’s and women’s volleyball teams who play their final weekend of Fall 2016 matches this Friday and Saturday against the Capilano University Blues in Victoria.

Camosun College welcomes the community to join in the excitement as preparations get underway for the 2017 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women’s Volleyball National Championship, March 8-11. The championship will feature the top eight teams in the country and will be Camosun’s first time hosting an indoor national event.

The two-time defending PACWEST champion Camosun College Chargers men’s volleyball team is set for another season as conference compeition gets underway this Thursday, October 13 at the Pacific Institute for Sport Excellence.

Thirty teams will congregate at the Pacific Institute for Sport Excellence (PISE) and St. Margaret’s School over the coming weekend to compete in the 2016 Camosun College Chargers Senior Girls’ High School Volleyball Tournament. The action begins at 1:00pm at both facilities on Friday, October 7.

The Camosun College Chargers men’s golf team emerged as repeat champions this weekend following Sunday’s closing round of the 2016 Pacific Western Athletic Association (PACWEST) golf season. There is a first time for everything and the adage rang true this weekend as the tournament final of the Camosun College Chargers Men’s Volleyball Annual Senior High School Boys’ Fall Classic took an unusual turn.

Fifteen teams will gather this weekend at the Pacific Institute for Sport Excellence and Pacific Christian School to take part in the 2016 Camosun College Chargers Men's Volleyball Fall Classic Senior Boys’ High School Tournament. The action starts Friday, September 23 at 4:00pm and will end with teams battling to advance in Saturday’s single knock-out playoff schedule.

The Camosun College Chargers men's golf team returned to their winning ways this weekend with a first place finish at the University of British Columbia Okanagan Invitational at the Okanagan Golf and Country Club in Kelowna, September 17-18. The Camosun College Chargers men’s golf team made their best all-time finish at this week’s Canadian University/College Championship, placing fifth overall. Camosun closed today’s round with a collective total of 299, the third lowest score of the day.

Not since 2005-06 has the Camosun College Chargers men’s basketball team completed a season with a Top 10 national ranking. This year, the Chargers made a spectacular showing at the PACWEST Provincial Championships to earn silver and a trip to the CCAA Nationals where the team finished 2015-16 ranked eighth in Canada.

With textbooks and gym bag in tow, Savana Walkingbear pulls open the heavy steel glass door of the Pacific Institute for Sport Excellence and is instantly met by his teammates and three assistant coaches who greet him with a succession of high fives. With a watchful eye, he makes his way past a barrage of volleyballs served mechanically from the opposite end of the court. In the Camosun Chargers team room he changes into his practice gear and receives a quick, routine taping by one of the team's athletic therapists.

Camosun College has been awarded the 2017 CCAA Women’s Volleyball National Championship. Camosun's bid to host Nationals was approved today at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association’s annual Winter Board Meeting in Ottawa. The event will take place in Victoria, BC, March 8-11, 2017.

The Camosun Chargers women’s basketball team netted their fourth consecutive win over the January 15-16 weekend with a pair of fiery road games against the Langara College Falcons and Quest University Kermodes. The Chargers advance to the number four spot in the conference standings with an improved record of 5-6 as PACWEST basketball enters Week 7 of competition.

Charles Parkinson will be trading in his Head Coach duties to head up the Play-by-Play at the 2016 Men’s NORCECA Continental Olympic Qualification Tournament in Edmonton, January 8-10. The winner of the qualifying tournament will go to the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and Canada is in the running.
