Chargers VB squads end mid-season Top 3

The Camosun Chargers volleyball teams closed the first half of the PACWEST season with an exciting sweep over the UFV Cascades in their November 28-29 road series weekend.  While the women went the distance in both contests to land 10-2 (#2) in the mid-season standings, the men blasted by their opponents in straight sets to sit 9-3 (#3). Despite having different plans for the break, both teams have their sights set on the PACWEST Provincial Volleyball Championships which will be hosted by Camosun College, February 26-28, 2015.

The first half of the 2014-15 PACWEST season has gone down as the fastest ever in Chargers history with a mere seven games played since Camosun’s basketball home opener on Halloween night. While 2014 has proven to be a battle of ups and downs for the men’s and women’s teams, the Chargers swept their November 21 & 22 road games against Kwantlen and CBC, closing the mid-season with four big wins to boost them into the New Year.

The Camosun College Chargers volleyball teams split their weekend series against the Capilano Blues on November 21st  and 22nd with the women collecting their first pair of losses and the men producing a sweep to advance to #3 in the PACWEST standings.

It was a bitter sweet weekend for the Camosun Chargers basketball teams who split their home openers against the CapU blues and Quest Kermodes , November 21 & 22nd. Both sets of games attracted big crowds to the Chargers’ home court at the Pacific Institute for Sport Excellence with fan support reaching a maximum to accompany the fast-running hoops action.


Chargers VB teams sweep Avs, women remain undefeated

Having successfully battled the after-effects of an almost paralyzing two-day bus trip to Cranbrook, the Camosun Chargers volleyball teams swept their series with the College of the Rockies Avalanche on the November 7-8 weekend, adding two matches apiece to their collection of wins.

Megan Beckett (Victoria, BC) put up 29 points in 6 sets of action as the Camosun College Chargers women’s volleyball team swept their third weekend of PACWEST league play and moved to 6-0 on the season. Megan is in her first year of University Transfer studies at Camosun College.


Chargers WVB sweep Royals to remain undefeated

The Camosun Chargers women’s volleyball team secured their second consecutive sweep of the season in New Westminster last weekend with their back to back victories over the Douglas College Royals. The Chargers remain undefeated heading into Week 3 of PACWEST competition and are tied for first place with the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades.

The 2014 Champions of the Camosun Chargers Senior Girls' Volleyball Tournament are the Timberline Wolves (Campbell River) after defeating South Delta in the final 2-1 (20-25, 25-21, 15-10). Riverside (Coquitlam) defeated Ladysmith 2-0 (25-20, 27-25) to finish third. Congratulations to all participating teams on a great weekend of volleyball!

 


Chargers maintain solid second in race towards PING CCAA Nationals

Focused on holding the number two spot to qualify for the PING CCAA Nationals, the Camosun Chargers men’s golf team finished 12 strokes over the VIU Mariners at the Douglas College Invitational (Kings Links, Delta), September 27-28 to break last week’s tie and reclaim second place heading into the fourth and final event of the 2014 PACWEST Conference series.

Morningstar produces positive results for PACWEST Island rivals

Camosun Chargers Golfer Jarred Callbeck grabs victory at 2014 Cedar Hill Golf Tournament

Jarred Callbeck was, as they say, "locked in" this past weekend.

The decorated Charger standout followed his opening 5-under par 62 on Saturday with a 63 on Sunday winning the 36-hole tourney. The impressive result wasn't without a sweat, as Callbeck nailed an eight-foot birdie putt on the final hole to grasp victory by one stroke.

Aija Salvador is a third year guard from Victoria BC. In the final league game of the season, the Camosun Chargers played the VIU Mariners in yet another Island Rivalry. With the Mariners on a 20-0 undefeated streak, the odds were against the Chargers. Camosun had other ideas as they gave VIU its first defeat of the season.

Chargers women’s basketball Christmas Classic a gigantic success

Beyond practicing new sets, cementing new systems, and interacting with new players, the biggest benefit of the Chargers annual Christmas Classic is an opportunity to play against new competition. From December 28th to 30th, seven teams from across Canada, and one from Washington State graced the hardwood of the Pacific Institute for Sport Excellence.
