To address the particular needs of the coastal communities and industries, Camosun College has launched the Coastal Skills Initiative. The Initiative will contribute to the growth of BC’s unique coastal communities and the associated career opportunities.

Most siblings share an ‘irrefutable bond’ and nothing epitomizes that particular adage more than the fraternal duo of Chargers student-athletes Kathryn and Dennis Candell who stand out as the first brother-sister twosome to play different sports at Camosun over the same year.

Winter term classes start in January 2017 at both the Lansdowne and Interurban campuses. Activities and courses include restorative yoga, cardio blast, Zumba, Pilates, diabetes exercise, abs and stretch, dancer’s body and many more.

Camosun College's Electronics & Computer Engineering Technology - Renewable Energy students will showcase their finished projects that they have been working on for the last three months. 

During severe weather conditions, Camosun College may make the decision to close Lansdowne and Interurban campuses and cancel or reschedule classes based on transportation and safety issues.

Babcock Canada today announced an investment of $800,000 into Camosun College’s TRADEMark of Excellence campaign. The contribution, the largest to Camosun’s campaign to date, will support next generation specialized equipment in the college’s new future-focussed Interaction Lab.

Camosun College Foundation’s TRADEmark of Excellence Campaign has exceeded an ambitious fundraising goal of $5 million by 30 per cent. In just 24 months, $6.5 million has been contributed to support skilled trades education at Camosun College. The TRADEmark Campaign is the first-ever major capital campaign initiated by the Camosun Foundation.

As part of Camosun’s TRADEmark of Excellence Campaign for the expansion and redevelopment of our trades training complex at Camosun, Seaspan’s Victoria Shipyards has manufactured and donated a 6 tonne ship’s bulkhead training module. This essential addition to Camosun’s new Coastal Skills Initiative is in addition to the $300K donation from the Dennis and Phyllis Washington Foundation to support training for women in trades that was announced on June 23, 2016.

As Camosun continues to advance sustainability on campuses and throughout the college community, it was recognized by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) as one of the top performers in the 2016 Sustainable Campus Index.

Camosun College is one of Canada’s top colleges for research income according to the annual Canada’s Top 50 Research Colleges report, released by Research Infosource Inc.

Camosun College welcomes the community to join in the excitement as preparations get underway for the 2017 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women’s Volleyball National Championship, March 8-11. The championship will feature the top eight teams in the country and will be Camosun’s first time hosting an indoor national event.

Camosun College students received 25% of the scholarships being offered by Ike Barber Transfer Scholarships for 2016. The 22 students from Camosun will each receive $5,000. The scholarship recognizes excellence in academic achievement and community service. 

Camosun College and BC’s Ministry of Social Development and Social Innovation (SDSI) are partnering to offer a new work experience pilot program for graduates of the College’s Office Administration Certificate Program.

The province has announced their funding of $5.2 million this year for trades training programs at Camosun. This investment, through the Industry Training Authority (ITA), will fund 2,047 seats in various trades programs including: electrical, carpentry, professional cook training, welding, automotive technology, sheet metal, plumbing and more.

With top-notch grades coming out of high school in India, Sukhdeep Kaur could have gone anywhere in the world to further her education, but Canada was always her first choice. “With my test scores, everybody was telling me that I should go to Canada,” she says. “Canada is known as a safe country and what I really like about it here is the respect for talent. There is no partiality.“

The Camosun College Chargers men’s golf team emerged as repeat champions this weekend following Sunday’s closing round of the 2016 Pacific Western Athletic Association (PACWEST) golf season. Over the four-tournament season, Camosun topped the team competition by an impressive 22 strokes to lay claim to their second consecutive conference title.

Advanced Education Minister Andrew Wilkinson visited plumbing and pipe trades students at Camosun College this week to see the benefit of open textbooks in action. The visit also celebrated the first anniversary of common-core-trades open textbooks, which offer resources for skills relevant to many trades.
