Camosun and Royal Roads University advance tourism education benefits'

In the spring of 2010, Camosun College, North Island College, Royal Roads University, the University of Victoria and Vancouver Island University signed a memorandum of understanding. The purpose of the agreement is to provide a broader range of learning opportunities and supports to residents and communities of Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands and the BC Coastal region through the development of an integrated and synergistic educational strategy.
On November 3, Camosun president Kathryn Laurin and Royal Roads University president Allan Cahoon took another collaborative step, and signed a transfer agreement that will result in complementary tourism educational programming for students of both institutions.
"The Royal Roads and Camosun College partnership responded to the call from government and the private sector to work more collaboratively and effectively in support of the expanding opportunities in British Columbia's growing tourism sector," said RRU president Allan Cahoon.
Under the new memorandum of understanding between the Camosun's tourism-focused business diploma programs and the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management at Royal Roads, students can transfer two years of credit to Royal Roads and complete RRU's new Bachelor of Arts in International Hotel Management or its Bachelor of Commerce in Entrepreneurship.
The three Camosun diploma programs are Business Administration – Tourism Management, Golf Management and Hotel and Restaurant Management.
"This is a win-win for students and the community alike," said Camosun president Kathryn Laurin. "This important regional economic sector will have greater access to graduates with new and additional skills and abilities. Collaborations like these make great sense and we're thrilled to formalize this key one with our sister institution, Royal Roads."
The November 3 signing ceremony also marked the renewal of an existing transfer agreement for students of professional communications management whereby Camosun Applied Communication Diploma students can transfer to Royal Roads University's Bachelor of Arts in Professional Communication.
