Royal Roads, Camosun to sign program transfer agreements

Victoria, B.C. – Graduating students from Camosun College's hospitality and tourism-related diploma programs will now be able to complete a bachelor's degree through Royal Roads University's Faculty of Management as a result of a transfer agreement being signed at Camosun's Lansdowne campus today at 2:30 p.m.
Under a new memorandum of understanding between the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management at Royal Roads and Camosun's tourism-focused business diploma programs, students can transfer two years of credit to Royal Roads and complete the Bachelor of Arts in International Hotel Management through either a two-year online, or 12-month on campus program equal to years three and four of a university degree. The agreement extends to Camosun students who have successfully completed diplomas in Business Administration–Tourism Management, Golf Management or Hotel and Restaurant Management, allowing them to transfer directly into the third year of the International Hotel Management program.
"The Royal Roads and Camosun College partnership responds to the call from government and the private sector to work more collaboratively and effectively in support of the expanding opportunities in British Columbia's growing tourism sector," said RRU president Allan Cahoon. "Together, we have effectively served the educational needs of students through our Bachelor of Commerce and Communication programs. Today's announcement is further evidence of strength in partnership."
In signing the agreement, Camosun president Kathryn Laurin said, "What we are marking here today is a win-win for students and the community alike. Students will be able to continue to enhance their qualifications through direct entry into third year of Royal Roads' new International Hotel Management or its Bachelor of Commerce in Entrepreneurship and this important economic sector for our region will have access to graduates with new and additional skills and abilities. Collaborations like these make great sense and we are thrilled to be formalizing this key one here today, together with our sister institution, Royal Roads."
The signing ceremony also marks the renewal of an existing transfer agreement for students of professional communications management whereby Camosun Applied Communication Diploma students can transfer to Royal Roads University's Bachelor of Arts in Professional Communication.
Camosun College was established in 1971 and currently serves more than 18,000 learners annually in a broad range of disciplines through to the applied degree level, including Business, Arts and Science, Health and Human Services, Trades and Technology, Access and Aboriginal Education, and Sport and Exercise Education.
Royal Roads University was established by the Province of British Columbia in 1995 specifically to deliver quality applied and professional programs to advance professionals in the workplace. The university blends online and on-campus learning with current, real-world relevance for doctorate, graduate and undergraduate degrees, certificates, diplomas, executive and custom education.
