Two Camosun College Chargers were named BCCAA Athlete of the Week for their outstanding performances against the Douglas College Royals this past weekend.

Garrett Marcellus

Garrett MarcellusGarrett Marcellus is in his second year at Camosun. This Victoria native started his Chargers career in the 2007-08 season. Following a year and a half hiatus, Marcellus has returned to the line-up.

On Friday night, Garrett scored 13 points to go along with 13 digs as the Chargers fell to the Royals in a hard fought four-set match. On Saturday, determined to make his presence felt, Marcellus led the Chargers with 15 kills, 1 block and an ace as well as 10 digs, and helped the Chargers return the favour as they took the Royals 3-1.

Camosun head coach Parkinson was very pleased with the Camosun returnee’s performance and commented that, “Garrett had an exceptional weekend. Although away from BCCAA league play for a year and a half, he has added a new dimension to the Chargers line-up that will surely have the teams in the league modifying their game plans from here on in. He was steady throughout both matches, made some very difficult digs on defence and had a good conversion ratio for points in transition.”

The Chargers stay idle this coming weekend but return to action on January 23rd and 24th as they travel to Abbotsford to take on the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades.

Tanisha Marcelle

Tanisha MarcelleSecond-year power hitter Tanisha Marcelle put on an exceptional show of talent this past weekend, helping the Chargers roll into the second half of the 09-10 season with a double-header win. Camosun travelled to the Royal City to take on the Douglas College Royals Friday and Saturday.

On Friday, January 8th, Camosun took it to the hosts in a five set thriller, (25-20, 17-25, 25-19, 22-25, 15-12). Marcelle ended the evening with 19 kills, 3 aces and 11 digs.

On Saturday, Camosun blew past Douglas 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-22) to take the weekend series 2-0. Marcelle added 17 kills, 1 block, 3 aces and 10 digs.

This offensive standout from Spectrum had a weekend kill percentage of over 40% and averaged 4.5 kills per game.

“Although every player displayed a high degree of execution this weekend, Tanisha’s performance was phenomenal,” commented Head Coach Hitesman. “We are playing incredibly well as a team and set to take on UFV on the January 23-24 weekend.”
