It was a long but exciting day for several Camosun College Chargers student-athletes and their coaches who spent the majority of their time waiting for the cameras to roll at the site of Sorority Wars which was shot late last week on location at Victoria’s St. Ann’s Academy.

“We were on set at 6:40am and left around 9:30pm,” said Alison Hitesman, head coach of the Camosun Chargers women’s volleyball program. “We were all a little tired, but it was a fantastic experience and everyone really enjoyed seeing how the movie crew went about their business.”

The Lifetime original movie starring Courtney Thorne-Smith, who played James Belushi's wife on the ABC perennial According to Jim, is set in the cut-throat world of college sororities. Production began late April in Vancouver and has spanned to various locations in Victoria, including Camosun College’s Lansdowne campus.

“The casting agency called me up and asked if we had any volleyball players who could step in as extras,” said Coach Hitesman. “So we gathered up as many athletes as we could, including my daughter Brittany, and answered the call.”

Joining the Hitesman duo on set were Chargers student-athletes Deena Swiatlowski, Adrianna Waller, Caitlin Weir, Bethany Farnell, Tanisha Marcelle and former Charger Sachi Ihara. A few members of the Chargers men’s volleyball team also participated in the shoot including men’s assistant coach Jill Walker, head coach Charles Parkinson, and his son and former Camosun athlete, Devon Parkinson.

St. Ann's AcademyAccording to the Hollywood Reporter, Sorority Wars centers on an 18-year-old freshman (Lucy Hale) who ignites a full-blown sorority war after she snubs Delta, the sorority co-founded by her mother (Thorne-Smith) and her mother's college best friend (Faith Ford), in favor of the more laid-back and less gossipy Kappa.

The movie, which is directed by James Hayman and described as a comedy/thriller is slated to be released in the US sometime next year. Hayman is a two-time Emmy Award winner and his numerous credits include Ugly Betty, The Sopranos, ER, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
