The Camosun College Chargers volleyball teams were hard at work in their home gym at PISE this past weekend hosting two of the hottest teams in the land, the University of BC-Okanagan Heat.

The increasingly impressive Chargers men’s squad pulled out another big win, taking the Heat (ranked #2 in the BCCAA and #4 nationally) to four sets and coming out victorious with the upset (25-21, 16-25, 25-17, 25-19).

Coach Parkinson said, “We were well prepared and we executed very well. Our goal has been to make it very difficult for teams to come onto our home court. I’m pleased with the progress we’ve made and we are ready and will battle every team we face with everything we have!”

Thanks to putting out the Heat’s fire and winning all but one of their eight last matches, the Chargers move up the CCAA rankings from number twelve to number eight nation-wide.

Ranked the BCCAA and CCAA’s top women’s volleyball team, UBC-O torched the Chargers (who now sit in seventh spot in the BCCAA with a 2-9 league record) in three solid sets (25-9, 25-4, 25-17). Despite seizing some much needed momentum in the third set, Camosun was never really in the match. “We practiced well this week, but it didn’t show against this very strong, nationally-ranked program,” commented head coach Alison Hitesman.

“Over the past few weekends, we’ve had to play three teams that were ranked in the top six in the country,” added Coach Hitesman. “It’s tough trying to make the wins when you are a young team still trying to develop experience and make forward progress. This weekend, we are looking to re-group and challenge CBC and UFV. Both teams are beatable – if we take care of our side of the net, we will be in a great position to make this a successful weekend.”
