Camosun's Saddlemeyer earns second BCCAA Athlete of the Week award
What a weekend for Aleks Saddlemeyer, Camosun Chargers right side and BCCAA Provincial Championship MVP!
During the Provincial Championships Aleks’ front row and back row attacking kept the Chargers alive in crucial situations and his serving put each of Camosun’s opponents on their heels. But it was his consistency that was the breakthrough. For all three of the Chargers’ five-set matches, Aleks led the team in volume of sets received, attack efficiency and scoring – something he had never done before!
In just three matches he scored a whopping 68 points and averaged five digs per match. Despite being known as a quiet and unassuming player, Saddlemeyer served notice that he is a force to be reckoned with.
At 6’5”, Aleks has the right physical proportions for volleyball and, coupled with an incredibly fast arm swing for such a big man, generates more velocity on his hits and serves than almost anyone in the league.
In January, the second-year Camosun athlete and Parklands grad earned his first BCCAA Athlete of the Week award for taking his game to a new level, scoring 36 points and 16 digs in two matches and helping his team steal two wins on the road.
Next week, the Chargers travel to Fort McMurray, AB to compete for the title at the CCAA National Championships hosted by Keyano College, March 12-14.
