John Randle selected as new head coach for Chargers golf

Camosun College is pleased to welcome Canadian PGA Professional and former Canadian Tour Player, John Randle, as the new head coach of the Chargers golf program.
A native Victorian, Mr. Randle has a long list of tournament and teaching accomplishments including 50 professional wins, seven course records (two of which still stand) and two PGA of BC Teacher of the Year awards (2002 and 2007). Golf Magazine ranks Randle as one of the "Top Instructors in Canada" and named him a Top Teacher in BC for the past four consecutive years.
John is currently Director of Instruction at Olympic View's world-class GBC Golf Academy and is author of an instructional book entitled A Wake Up Call for Your Golf as well as over 90 articles for a variety of golf publications and newspapers.
"I'm really excited to join the Camosun Chargers Golf program and look forward to passing on my experiences to the team," commented Coach Randle. "I feel my background as a college golfer, tour player and now as an experienced instructor will be very valuable when helping to guide the members of the team."
Camosun College Recreation and Athletics Coordinator Graham Matthews is pleased with the appointment of such an accomplished individual, but understandably feels bittersweet about the transition.
"It's great to have John on board, his experience, skills and connections will help ensure the program's continued success. At the same time, we're very sad to see former head coach Troy Dunning leave the program. Troy did a fantastic job of putting Camosun back on the map following the Chargers' three-year hiatus from the British Columbia College's Athletic Association. In total, he's been with the Chargers for seven seasons in a number of different capacities, but once he took over the program as head coach in 2005, he was instrumental in guiding the team to a number of big wins including a provincial silver medal in 2005, two provincial gold medals in 2006 and 2007 and a silver medal at the 2007 Canadian Colleges' Athletic Association National Championship."
Dunning's last stint as head coach of the Chargers occurred this May when 30 teams from across Canada gathered to battle for the Royal Canadian Golf Association (RCGA) Canadian University/College Championship title, at Cordova Bay Golf Club, where the team made a very respectable eighth place finish.
"It was very gratifying for our entire team to pass two universities and finish eighth," commented Dunning. To compete on this national stage and have this type of accomplishment is one that our team can take great pride in. Seven seasons with the Chargers has been a very rewarding opportunity and experience for me, and one that I am sad to walk away from. But I'm pleased and proud to leave this program in a strong position for my replacement."
Dunning leaves the program to focus on family and his role as Program Leader and Co-op and Internship Coordinator for Camosun's Golf Management program.
Coach Randle begins his role as the new Chargers head coach immediately. The Chargers' first 2008 BCCAA league tournament is scheduled for September 13-14, hosted by Selkirk College in Castlegar.
"Troy Dunning has done an excellent job with the team in recent years and my plan is to continue to grow the program and our players, both as golfers and as students," said Randle.
