Record number of employers seek top performers at Camosun's 2014 Trades and Technology Career Fair

January 30, 2014 saw 28 employers from the trades and technology sectors converge at Camosun's Interurban campus to connect with around 1,500 grads and alumni looking to secure short and long term work. The wide range of exhibitors represented large and small businesses and while many were locally based, the career fair also drew recruiters from Alberta and the U.S. In the face of a looming skilled labour shortage, recruiters appealed directly to the students.

"Camosun has a great trades program. It's the best place to look for the best people." Reg Gladstone, Skilled Trades Employment Program.

"The people who come from Camosun are well rounded, with good technical skills, good hands-on skills, and are a valuable resource for us." Ian Skinner, Schneider Electric.

Gloria Darroch, Camosun's director of co-operative education and student employment, noted the importance of a good employer-employee match.

"As much as the employer wants to hire the right employee, it's just as important for employees to find work that allows them to thrive. This career fair introduces people so the conversations can begin."

Students presented resumes and discussed their options while gathering information about co-operative education, paid internships, and full-time careers. Employers held interviews the following day.
