Camosun receives close to $800,000 for health and human service programs

This funding is part of an overall one-time $1.8 million fund to help BC colleges to create more health care training seats.

“We are very pleased to receive this funding from the Ministry of Advanced Education,” says Camosun President Kathryn Laurin. “The funding is crucial as these programs are in high demand and it allows Camosun to educate more students as professional front-line health workers to provide vital life-enhancing care to those in our community.”

For Camosun’s Mental Health and Addictions program, the funding will allow the college to enroll another 32 students in a new offering of the program starting this January.  For the Health Care Assistant program, it means 64 seats in delivered through one full-time and one part-time program.

Both of these programs are in very high demand at Camosun, and the skilled graduates they deliver make a vital and significant contribution to the health of our community.

Health Care Assistants work in our long-term care facilities, in acute care, and in people’s homes.  They care for seniors and for those with disabilities.  Mental Health and Addictions workers support those in recovery, work to reduce the stigma of addiction and assist in providing meaningful opportunities for those affected.
