Success that can be counted in miles and in smiles!

Faye Martin, Ron Driedger and Doreen Provencher.
Camosun's contingent of 115 riders, about 10% of our employee community, really embraced the spirit of Greater Victoria's annual bike to work week and, by doing so, helped to cycle towards healthy people and a healthy planet. Camosun hosted a community Celebration Station at Lansdowne campus on Wednesday where over 100 bike commuters stopped to enjoy refreshments, stamp their BTWW passports, enter the prize draw and visit the bike service station.
The story is in the stats
Camosun College cyclists clocked in at 6,734.67 total kilometers! This number represents a substantial increase over past years. In fact, it's 1,200km more than we rode in 2010 and over 4000km more than 2009. Cycling this distance instead of driving saved 1.35 tons of Carbon Dioxide from entering our atmosphere—that's like driving 12 times from Victoria to Portland, Oregon. In addition, cyclists burned body fat and had tons of fun.
New riders who have fond memories of cycling 10 or 15 years ago got back on their bikes and rediscovered the joys of the open road. Special congratulations to Doreen Provencher in Aboriginal Education & Community Connections who is a first time rider with a round trip of 34 kilometers!
Other Camosunites who really "went the distance" are:
- Jamie Doran—71kms on Wednesday
- Jackie Eddy—69.5kilometers Monday and Tuesday
- Ian Tol—58 kilometers on Tuesday
