Camosun College Bookstore launches textbook rental website for all local students

The Camosun College Bookstore has partnered with textbook wholesaler, Follett, to provide Vancouver Island post-secondary students with a new way to save on the cost of textbooks with the launch of a new rental website.
The Canadian Federation of Students reports that the average post-secondary student can pay from $500 to $1,000 for course materials per semester. Textbook rentals can provide significant savings for students, with short term rentals of 30 days costing approximately 50 to 60% of the new retail price.
For Camosun’s Bookstore, textbook rentals represent one more pricing option available to students.
“In addition to providing as many used textbooks as possible, we saw the need to provide rentals in order to help Camosun students,” says Bookstore Manager Laura-Lea Berna. Textbook rentals are not for everyone, but for those students challenged with coming up with funds on the first day of classes to pay for their course materials, rentals can help to cut initial costs.
“One of the great things about our textbook rental program is that it is open to all post-secondary students in the greater Victoria area,” says Berna. Students from any local institution can search for their textbook on the rental website. If available, the textbook is shipped direct to the student. Once their rental period is over the student drops off the book at the Camosun College Bookstore located at the Lansdowne campus. “The Bookstore takes care of returning the rental textbook – there is no return shipping cost for the student,” explains Berna.
Students can search by ISBN (International Standard Book Number) located on the back cover, Author and/or Title at www.camosuncollegebookstore.rentsbooks.com. Rental periods range from 30 days to 125 days and rental periods can be extended at any time.
