95 high school students spent the day at Camosun’s Interurban campus on Friday, March 26, competing in nine different trades and technology skills contests. This is one of 12 regional competitions happening around BC, with gold medal recipients winning the right to represent their region at the upcoming Skills Canada BC provincial competition in Abbotsford, April 21, 2010.
Provincial gold medal winners will then proceed to the 16th annual Canadian Skills competition in Waterloo, Ontario, to be held May 20-23, 2010. Canadian champions will then move on to the 41st biannual World Skills Competition in London, UK, October 5-8, 2011.
In addition to the secondary school contests, 60 middle school students were also at Camosun, competing in three Junior Skills contests. These competitions encourage younger students to develop an interest in hands-on skills, but do not lead to further competition at the provincial level.
