Camosun College today announced the winning entries in the second annual "My Camosun" video contest, which challenged local filmmakers and amateur videographers to create a one-minute video in any style on the theme, "My Camosun". The contest was open to everyone, including current and future students, staff, faculty, alumni, community partners, friends and neighbours.
Prizes were awarded as follows:
First place ($750 prize): Maelina de Grasse
Second place ($500 prize): Bruce Dean
Third place ($250 prize): Patrick O’Keefe
"We were thrilled with the number of great entries to the contest," says David Sovka, Associate Director of College and Community Relations, and creator of the contest. "Camosun is its people, and their story is our story."
The contest was judged by a panel from the college, A British Columbia, and the Victoria Film Commission, who viewed the 30 video entries many times to come to a consensus decision.
"The idea for the contest was to let the community tell the complete ‘story’ of Camosun College through diverse voices," says Sovka. "Letting people tell their story through video is a way to paint a vibrant picture of who we are."
The contest rules were very simple:
1. Create a one-minute (or so) video on the theme "My Camosun".
2. Don't be creepy.
"The rules were purposefully vague, yet meaningful," says Sovka, "In order to encourage as wide an interpretation and participation as possible."
