And then there were two. Matthew Dobry from Ontario will be facing Marc Schoene from Alberta in the finals of the Next Great Chef. Alberta beat Manitoba last week to make it to the finals. Ontario is going into the finals with an undefeated record while Alberta has lost once but got a second chance by becoming the wildcard chef. The exciting competition wraps-up this Friday night at 8. The exciting prime-time documentary series is the Next Great Chef was filmed in Victoria, with several segments filmed at Camosun College’s Helmut Huber Culinary Arts Centre.
Erik Andersen, Chair of the Culinary Arts Department and a chef with over 30 years experience cites the example of Camosun College Culinary Arts graduate Daniel Craig, who won gold at the prestigious Jeunes Commis Rotisseurs world cooking competition this fall in Adelaide, Australia. “These are the young greats of the cooking world,” says Andersen, “but they are real people with real stories, which the show captures very well.”

Camosun College’s Culinary Arts Training program prepares students for employment in the food service industry by teaching the fundamentals of food preparation in all stations of a modern industrial kitchen. Three levels of Culinary Arts are offered, allowing students to seek employment in restaurants, hotels, lodges, clubs, institutions, catering companies and resorts. The food service industry is one of the nation’s biggest employers, and employment opportunities are well above average.
