High school students test their business savvy at
Camosun College’s High School Business Simulation Competition
April 20 & 21
Victoria – Twenty-five of Victoria’s finest high school business students will compete in the Vancouver Island High School Business Simulation Competition hosted by Camosun’s School of Business, this Thursday, April 20 and Friday, April 21 from 9am to 4pm at Camosun’s Interurban Campus.
“Camosun’s School of Business is hosting the event to expose high school students to realistic business situations, giving them an opportunity to experience Camosun’s business programs and environment while honing their business and teamwork skills,” said Richard Olesen, dean of Camosun’s School of Business.
Student teams from Mt. Doug, Spectrum, Oak Bay, Belmont, Victoria High, Lambrick Park and Esquimalt secondary schools are participating.
“The competition includes a case analysis, a presentation portion and a business simulation portion,” adds Olesen. “Each student team will be given a case for analysis and presentation to a Board of Directors. The case analysis project will focus on how a multi–national corporation deals with competitors in local markets and in business practices, ethical and otherwise. The business simulation portion will see teams competing against one another to capture the highest market share based on a number of variables including product, price, promotion, place and environmental factors.”
Participants will be judged on team response, financial performance and final presentation.
The public and media are welcome to attend the presentation portion of the competition on Thursday, April 20 starting at 2pm in the School of Business, Centre for Business & Access, Room 210, Interurban Campus.
Awards will be given for the competition winners, best turn–around team and most professional and ethical. Students will also compete for a $2,000 Camosun College scholarship.
Results will be announced at an Awards Dinner on Friday, April 21, 6pm at Milestones Restaurant.
“Many thanks to Harvey and Shirley Pinch, the Camosun College Foundation, Imax and the high school counsellors and business teachers who have made this first–ever competition for Camosun such a success,” said Olesen.
