Seventeen deserving Camosun College students each received a $5,000 Ike Barber BC Transfer Scholarship recognizing their excellent academic achievement and community service. The Irving K. Barber Scholarship Society, named for the BC philanthropist and founder of Slocan Forest Products Ltd., encourages students to start their post-secondary studies at a local public institution like Camosun College, then transfer to a degree-granting institution in BC to complete their four-year bachelor's degree.

"On behalf of Camosun College, I am so proud to congratulate the 2012 scholarship recipients," says VP Education John Boraas. "Their success speaks to the exceptional value of a Camosun education: excellent instructors, a supportive learning environment, close to home."

Camosun has an outstanding record of success with the Ike Barber Transfer scholarships, which were established in 2006. This year, as every year except 2009, Camosun students received more of the scholarships than any other BC post-secondary institution. "In addition to receiving close to 20% of the total scholarships awarded, I'm delighted by the diversity of programs represented. We really are a comprehensive college of life-changing learning," says Boraas.

BC learners are fortunate to have a wide variety of excellent post-secondary institutions to choose from. The Barber scholarships encourage students to pursue the high quality and affordable option of starting their studies at a college closer to home.
