Camosun's Accounting department hosted its third annual "Chartered Accountants Local Firms Recruiting Night" at the Interurban campus this week.
Matchmaking adds up
"This is a great early opportunity for our students to learn about local accounting firms," says Joan Yates, Dean of the School of Business. "They meet representatives from companies interested in hiring Camosun graduates." Over the years, local firms have come to rely on the event as an initial matchmaking session, leading to autumn interviews and hiring.
Small groups of students meet each accounting firm one at a time, to discuss career opportunities as professional accountants in Victoria. A reception with refreshments and live music follows the sessions, encouraging further one-on-one mingling between the firms and students.
Employers participating in this year's event included Crawford Paterson Campbell & McNeill, Field & Company, Hayes Stewart Little & Co., Hutcheson & Co., Mantell Dickson Blades Dusanj; Meyers Norris Penny; Norgaard Neale Camden, Office of the Auditor General (BC), Schibli Stedman King, and Trenholme & Company
The School of Business partnered with local companies Sauce restaurant, Cineplex theatre, Cara Operations, Meyers Norris Penny, and the Camosun College's bookstore to host the event.
