Camosun golfers finish fourth at Nationals

Despite a strong comeback in the final round of play at the 2010 PING CCAA National Golf Championships, the Camosun College Chargers finished fourth, just one spot shy of the medals.
The Chargers, who ended day one of the Championship in second place, lost ground following round two where a combination of heavy winds and an indomitable group of competitors set the team back to a three-way tie for fifth.
On day three, Camosun rallied forward, shooting the third lowest score of the day but it was not enough to advance them into the top three.
"The guys tried hard and left it all out there," commented Chargers Head Coach John Randle. "We shot 297 and finished fourth, just five shots out of the medals."
Humber College led the pack all the way, earning the 2010 Championship title with a three-day team total of 848. The top seven men's teams finished as follows:
1. Humber College 848 (Gold)
2. University Fraser Valley 886 (Silver)
3. Georgian College 896 (Bronze)
4. Camosun College 901
5. Niagara 908
6. Vancouver Island University 909
7. Mt. Royal University 913

The top three men's individual spots were also taken by Humber with David Lang (206), Mark Hoffman (212) and Adrian Cord (213) winning gold, silver and bronze respectively.
Though disappointed with this week's outcome, the Chargers should be proud of their development as a program overall. Last year, Camosun finished fifth at Nationals and their fourth place finish at this year's Championship is proof that the program is progressing.
With the completion of the 2010 National Championship behind them, the Chargers are focused on going for gold at the BCCAA Provincial Golf Championships next weekend in North Vancouver.
"The season isn't over yet," stated Coach Randle who led Camosun to a silver medal at last year's Provincial Championship. "We are still waiting to play to our potential and we'll try to take the positives to finish strong at Capilano next weekend."
