Camosun Calendar goes green

For the first time in its nearly 40-year history, this year Camosun College will not be printing a college Calendar. The Calendar is the official print document colleges and universities traditionally use to list program options, important dates, policies, and much more.
"The trouble with a print document is that it gets stale fast," says Nicole Greengoe, Registrar and Director of Student Services. "Camosun is on the move, always developing new programs and refreshing successful ones to best prepare our students for local and international changes in industry and the economy. Freshness counts – we want our community to know about new developments the moment they happen."
Instead of a traditional print Calendar, the college is relying on its website to convey information on programs, policies and practices relevant to its students, employers and community partners. "This year Camosun has 10,000 full time, and many more part-time students," says Greengoe. "They can all find the most up-to-date information online, 24-7 at www.camosun.ca. Our website never closes."
The change from print to online is also seen as a step towards reducing the college's environmental footprint. "Five thousand copies of a 260 page document is a lot of trees," says Greengoe. "Not printing the Calendar means saving a lot of paper and energy."
