Camosun College today announced that it has partnered with Vancouver Island-based fair trade coffee company, Level Ground Trading. Level Ground will be the exclusive supplier of coffee in the college's new Lansdowne campus coffee shop, to be run by college food supplier, ARAMARK Higher Education.
"Level Ground is a natural choice for us," says Kathryn LeGros, Director of Ancillary Services at Camosun College. "We are a community college, and issues like local food, sustainability and community really matter to our students and faculty." Based on Vancouver Island, Level Ground Trading has been trading fairly and directly with small-scale coffee farmers in five countries for over 13 years.
The new, and as-yet unnamed coffee shop will open in the new year. The college is asking students and faculty for name suggestions for the Lansdowne coffee shop via a campus-wide contest. Name suggestions are due by January 15, and will be revealed at the March grand opening event.
