Camosun golf students raise funds for Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation
Camosun’s golf management students took a grey, rainy day last week and turned it pink and green.

Each year, as part of their Tournament and Event Management class, first-year golf management students organize and run a charity tournament. This year’s charity of choice was the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation BC/Yukon region. The Hit the Links for Pink tournament was held at Olympic View golf course March 25.
Students, sponsors and supporters teed up at Olympic View golf course wearing pink, and at the end of the day, $3532 was raised.
“Golf management is an exciting hands-on two-year business program which provides quality learning experiences such as Hit the Links for Pink. The students learn in their first year to apply business and golf operations skills by managing an event of this magnitude,” says Troy Dunning, Camosun’s golf program leader. “Giving back to the local community is a best practice that these soon-to-be graduates then take to the facilities where they’ll build careers.”
The cheque for $3532 was presented to Tracy Ryan, Regional Manager, Vancouver Island, Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation BC/Yukon Region during today’s Tournament and Event Management class. “The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation is committed to a future without breast cancer,” says Ryan. “We are so pleased with the efforts of the students and the support from Camosun College staff and faculty for their outstanding fundraising. Thanks to them, we are that much closer to realizing our goal.”
Last year, students raised more than $2500 for their tournament beneficiary, the Vancouver Island Prostate Cancer Research Foundation. “The annual tournament is a wonderful opportunity to educate our students on social and community responsibility,” says Ian Humphries, Associate Dean of the School of Business. “Every opportunity to participate in student-led applied projects enriches the student, college and wider community.”
Camosun College’s two-year Golf Management diploma program emphasizes management and marketing. It’s the only program in British Columbia fully accredited and endorsed by the Canadian Professional Golfers' Association (CPGA).
