It takes four barrels of fresh water to produce one barrel of crude oil in the Alberta oil sands—America’s biggest oil supplier. How do we balance our concern about the depletion, exploitation, privatization and contamination of water against the global war for oil?
Alberta’s oil sands are at the centre of this tension. H2Oil follows a voyage of discovery, heartbreak and politicization in the stories of those attempting to defend water in Alberta against tar sands expansion. Unlikely alliances are built and lives are changed as they come up against one of the most significant, and destructive, industrial projects of our time.
Following the film, the audience will have an opportunity to share their thoughts and opinions. The discussion will be facilitated by Barry Weaver, who recently retired from Camosun’s Geography department.
The public is welcome to attend and admission is by donation.
