Earlier this year, Camosun College business student, Graham Richard Parrish, captured in song and video how many visitors and residents feel about Victoria. His unique and attention-grabbing video, claiming Victoria as the world’s true centre of romance, is one of four vignettes that Tourism Victoria used to launch their YouTube.com presence in 2009. Parrish’s video called “A Match That’s Nowhere to Be Found” was part of Tourism Victoria’s spring Student Video Contest.

Robert Gialloreto is Tourism Victoria’s president and CEO. “With the viral nature of YouTube.com you never know what’s going to be popular and generate buzz,” says Gialloreto.“Videos such as Graham’s help generate attention and web traffic to a city that has no equal!”

Parrish is now in his third year at Camosun, working on a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a major in Marketing Communications Management. His approach to business has always been inventive. In 2007, Parrish and two other Camosun students took first place in Vancouver Island’s Innovation and Development Corporation (IDC) Invention competition. Derek Bailey, James Herriot and Parrish won for their hybrid pedaling system for an electric-assist human-powered vehicle.

“Today’s students face dramatic change including shifts in enterprise, the environment, technology and of course the economy,” says Joan Yates, dean of the School of Business.”Students like Graham will graduate from Camosun, demonstrably ready to participate fully with creative, analytic and problem-solving skills.”
