Camosun College invites members of the media to attend a presentation by Dr. Farid Novin, Senior Representative (Economics) for the Bank of Canada BC/Yukon Region.

  • Presentation topic: Canada’s recent economic performance, monetary policy and economic outlook.

Camosun College’s School of Business teaches finance and economics to hundreds of students in a year. As part of this process, and especially in light of the worldwide economic downturn, it is important that students are aware of the issues, and that they look critically at the impact managers have in relation to a nation’s economy.

Dr. Novin’s visit to the campus to meet directly with Camosun learners is one of many activities the School of Business undertakes as part of a renewed commitment to ensure high levels of financial literacy in the next generation of managers.

Profile

Dr. Farid Novin was appointed Senior Representative (Economics) at the Bank's Regional Office for British Colombia and Yukon in 1999. He directs research and analysis on economic and financial developments in the region.

Dr. Novin has taught at Queen's University, Concordia University and the University of Ottawa. He currently teaches a MBA course on banking and capital markets at the Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia.

Dr. Novin was born in Isfahan, Iran and moved to Canada in 1979. He received a B.A. in Economics from the National University of Iran in 1971; a Post Graduate Diploma in Socio-Economic Planning from The Hague, Netherlands in 1976; and a Post Graduate Diploma in Economic Development from Manchester University in 1977.
