Joyce van de Vegte and Cathy Woodward.Mid-way through Electronics and Computer Engineering Technology program, Cathy Woodward has earned a perfect 9.0 Grade Point Average. That’s the highest GPA you can get at Camosun. Wow!

Cathy has always been a good student, and she arrived at Camosun with a great high school record. Academic achievement is important of course, but she was unsure about whether she was well-suited to electronics engineering. But now, after gaining expertise with analog and digital circuits, computer programming and digital communications, she is confident she made the right choice. Her work is top-notch and her work ethic, unrivalled. Surrounded by male classmates, Cathy understands what it’s like to be the only female in a class, and takes the time to mentor other female students following behind her.

To honour Cathy for her accomplishments, efforts and positive attitude, she recently received the Stephen Lloyd Memorial Award. Congratulations, Cathy!

And So Do the Smart Guys!

Camosun graduates are very well prepared for further studies, and this was proven once again when the University of British Columbia honoured new graduates of their Mechanical Engineering degree program.

Camosun and UBC work in partnership to offer Engineering Bridge, a 6-month program designed for graduates of Technology Diploma programs at Camosun and other Canadian colleges who are ready to continue their education and earn a full engineering degree. Graduates of the Bridge program are able to move directly into 3rd year studies. Combining the hands-on aspects of the technology diploma program with the high standards of academic excellence demanded in the Bridge program has proven to be a blueprint for success.

Four Camosun Bridge grads received Degrees with Distinction in Mechanical Engineering:

  • Christopher Bibby
  • Pierre Couturier
  • Paul Dirksen
  • Sandy Godwin

Two of these grads also received special awards.

  • Christopher Bibby was awarded the Letson Prize for Mechanical Engineering.
  • Pierre Couturier earned the APEG Achievement Award, awarded to a graduating student who shows great promise. UBC noted that in addition to strong academic skills, Pierre excels in design and teamwork.

Congratulations to all the Camosun-UBC Grads!
