Debra Little with the LERN award and winning calendar
Camosun College’s continuing education course calendar was awarded top design prize at a Learning Resources Network (LERN) conference in Savannah, Georgia in November. LERN is the leading North American association for lifelong learning programs and schools.
More than 600 delegates attended this year’s November national conference, including a team from Camosun College’s Continuing Education and Contract Training department.
"Being awarded the 2010 LERN International Award for Excellence in Brochure Design for our fall continuing education course calendar was particularly sweet,"says David Sovka, Camosun’s Associate Director of College and Community Relations."The calendar is a college-wide team effort, led by marketing and communication strategist Debra Little."
The Camosun College entry was selected from more than 140 nominations from four countries. Sally Coates, copy editor, accepted the award on behalf of the Camosun team, which includes Debra Little, managing and design editor; Karen Weiss, design; and Judy Harper, layout. "LERN told me Camosun’s sustainability considerations, the great retro feel of the 60s van cover image, plus the visually pleasing inside pages were deciding factors," says Coates.
The inside pages of Camosun’s continuing education calendar have been printed on Vancouver Island, using 100% post-consumer waste recycled Canadian paper, for the past four years. The Vancouver Island Newspaper Group, part of Canwest Publishing Inc., prints the inside pages in Nanaimo. The covers are printed at Hemlock Printers Ltd in Vancouver, BC.
Camosun’s new winter course calendar hit Victoria streets December 5, and includes 200 courses, including 50 new classes. "The new calendar cover of glowing yellow starfruit is now garnering rave reviews!"says Sovka.
