Camosun College Board of Governors announces changes including new Chair

Camosun College Board of Governors welcomed Mr. Robin Adair to the role of Chair at its regular monthly meeting earlier this week, taking over the position from outgoing Chair, Mr. Kim Hesketh. Adair, a member of the Board since 2007, is a communications consultant and political analyst based in Victoria. He is currently Vice President responsible for Communications and Government Relations with WCG International Consultants Ltd. WCG is the parent company of JobWave and Triumph which assist social assistance and disability clients in reaching their full employment potential. Robin Adair is a BCIT Broadcast Communications graduate (1978) who worked for many years as a radio and television journalist. He is a former Vice President of the Learning Disability Association – Southern Vancouver Island and is also a Governor of the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce.
In addition to electing Adair to the role of chair, the Board of Governors named Ms. Lynda Farmer to the position of Vice-Chair. Both positions are for a 1 year term. Farmer’s current business interests are Partner, Trilogy Group; Partner, Westside Equestrian Centre at Bonnie Brae Farm Ltd.; and, Partner, Beckton Estates Inc. Her past work experience ranges from Director of Communications for the Ministry of Health to Regional Administrator, Vancouver Island for the Arthritis Society, BC Division. Ms. Farmer’s current community involvement includes Board Member, Mary Winspear Community Cultural Centre Foundation; Campaign Co-Chair, New Sidney Marine Discovery Centre; and Advisory Board Member CHTT/CIOC (Rogers Radio.)
Two new members were also welcomed to the Board the same evening. Local community member Mr. Scott Marshall has been appointed through a recent Provincial Government Order in Council. Marshall was a charter student at Simon Fraser University and received a Bachelor of Laws Degree from UBC in 1972. He has practised law since 1973, for the past 30 years with the firm of Wilson Marshall. After his move to Victoria in 1975, he served as an instructor in Business Law at Camosun College for three years. He presently focuses on corporate/commercial and real estate law.
“I am delighted to welcome Scott to the Camosun College Board,” said Chair Robin Adair. “His experience and expertise blend well with the range of skills already present, resulting in an energetic and dynamic Board to guide Camosun through the coming years.” Adair gratefully acknowledges outgoing board member Mr. David Johns, who completes a six-year term on the Board of Governors. “We thank David for his tremendous contributions and wish him well in his future endeavors.”
Also joining the Board is Christopher Gillespie, new Camosun student representative joining current student representative Matthew de Groot. Born in Etobicoke, Ontario, Christopher has lived in British Columbia for seventeen years. In 2006, he graduated from Sprott-Shaw Community College with a dual-diploma in Hospitality and Professional Business Management and an overall average of 88%. Christopher currently studies Political Science and aspires to become a Member of Parliament someday. He spent this past summer working for an M.P. in Ottawa and learning how to run political campaigns. He is a past member of the Education Council and has been recently elected as the External Executive for the Camosun College Student Society. He is also the current President of the BC Universities Model Parliament Society.
