Camosun College’s School of Business congratulates student recipients at its annual awards ceremony Monday, November 17, 5:30pm, Helmut Huber Food Services building, Interurban campus. Many of the donors of the 56 awards will be attending and making the presentations to the student recipients. Financial prizes totalling more than $35,000 will be awarded.
Special guests include Ray Kolla, KPMG Victoria Office Managing Partner, and Associate Partner Larry Ross.
The KPMG Foundation will be acknowledged for its $65,000 contribution to the Camosun College Foundation and the School of Business at the awards evening. The funds paid for the renovation and refurbishing of a classroom used by accounting students.
“Camosun College is mindful about providing opportunities for students to connect what they learn in the classroom to their future professions,” said Ray Kolla, KPMG Victoria Office Managing Partner.“That approach to student success matches KPMG’s commitment to continuous learning and to creating strong and successful working relationships. Camosun’s programs have helped many of our Victoria and Vancouver employees in the pursuit of their accounting designation so it made enormous sense for us to help support the program.”

“KMPG’s generous donation enabled refurbishing of the classroom with state-of-the-art convertible desks, computers and monitors,” said Richard Olesen, Dean of the School of Business. “We’re very appreciative of KPMG’s help in creating an environment where our students can excel as they pursue their educational goals.”
The Certified General Accountants of British Columbia are also being acknowledged for their generous endowment of $50,000 that supports student scholarships. A classroom is being dedicated to the CGA – BC in acknowledgement of the ongoing support Camosun has received from both the provincial body and the local chapters for many years.
The academic achievements of 56 students will be recognized with awards at the November 17 ceremony. Thomas David Jr. is one of the 56, and the recipient of the first-ever Indigenous Business Leadership Entrance Scholarship sponsored by the Allen and Loreen Vandekerkhove Foundation.
"This is a good start to a new part of my life, thanks to Camosun, the Indigenous Business Leadership Program, Susanne Thiessen, program leader, and the donor of the award,” says David. “This award means the world to me."
‘It’s only through the vision and generosity of so many corporate and individual donors that so many deserving students are being celebrated at this event,” notes Susan Haddon, Executive Director of the Camosun College Foundation.
