Microsoft Canada and ACCC meet with Camosun College and students, staff and faculty
2pm on March 5 @ the Helmut Huber Annex, Interurban campus
The current talent shortage in the ICT sector is not simply an industry problem; it affects the entire country and its ability to compete in the global marketplace. Microsoft and the Association of Canadian Community Colleges are coming to Camosun to present a 90 minute session: "How to be successful as a college graduate entering the IT sector." The goal is to build excitement about the possibilities of a career in the Canadian IT sector and share strategies for career success. The presentation is NOT a marketing session or product pitch.
- When: 2 pm, March 5, 2008
- Where: Helmut Hubert Annex, Interurban campus
The 90 minute session content will include:
- Leading Edge Technologies – there is a lot to be excited about in the IT sector. The session will start with major technological advancements across the industry that have changed the way we live and work and excite students about the breadth of career possibilities in the IT sector beyond managing a network or writing code.
- Industry Perspective - there are a lot of conflicting messages, misinformation, misperceptions and misunderstanding about what is really happening in the IT industry in Canada. Through a partnership with ICTC, CIPS and other industry organizations we have put together the “real story” on the state of IT and the job prospects in the ICT sector for college graduates.
- Becoming and Staying Successful - in order to be successful early on in their careers, students need to know how to keep their skills and experience up to date, what the new technology trends are, where the industry in Canada is going and how to manage all this information. A review of best practices will help student face these challenges head on to be successful in their careers.
- Open Forum – a significant amount of time will be spent on addressing a wide range of questions, issues or concerns students have about careers and employment in the ICT sector.
- Presenters – the Canadian Community Advisor team consists of a group of college and university grads with experience in all aspects of the IT industry and who are passionate about technology, and helping people succeed in IT.
