Book drive from March 3 to 7

Between March 3 to 7, the Camosun Environmental Technology students and faculty will be collecting recent edition text books in good condition to ship to the Environmental Science department of the University of Buea in Cameroon.
"This project takes unneeded books, which rapidly become outdated, and turns them into a valuable resource," said Natalie Cushing, an Environmental Technology student. "By sending our surplus text books to Cameroon, we extend the lifespan of the books and address the disparity in access to books between Camosun and University of Buea."

Please donate your outdated texts in the following subject areas:

Books can be dropped off at the counter at the Book Store, the Arts and Science Office or request a pick-up.
How it All Started
At the beginning of February, Camosun and the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) hosted a Service Learning Confrerence. Dr. Yinda Goodwin Sendze, part of a delegation from the University of Buea in Cameroon and the head of the Environmental Science program, asked to speak to Camosun's Environmental Technology program students. At the conclusion of his presentation, Dr. Sendze told the group that his school had a large, three wing library built by the government, but not enough books to fill the first wing.
Camosun Environmental Tech students and faculty decided to change that. They’ll be collaborating with International Cooperation and the African Awareness Committee with the goal of collecting 200 good-quality books for students at the University of Buea.
What You Can do to Help
- Donate your text books. Drop-off science textbooks, less then ten years old, in good condition. Books can be dropped off to any of the drop boxes around campus, or email colangel@camosun.bc.ca to arrange to have your books picked up.
- Volunteer. Help put up posters, collect books, and package books for shipping.
- Spread the word. Let your teachers and students know about the book-drive.
