It was a show of strength and unity December 4 when accounting students, representatives from Certified General Accountants (CGA), business faculty and the Camosun College Foundation came together to celebrate a fundraising accomplishment that supports student success.
Accounting students applauded as Jennifer Smith, Vice Chair Southern Vancouver Island CGA, officially cut the ribbon to the Centre for Business and Access’s classroom 286 to officially dedicate the room as the Certified General Accountants (CGA) classroom.
Richard Olesen, Dean of the School of Business thanked both the Victoria chapter and the provincial CGA body who worked together to create a $40,000 endowment. A further $10,000, raised by the local chapter this year, was donated at the December 4 room dedication. Sandra Bitz, Foundation development officer notes that the endowment supports Camosun accounting students with scholarship and bursaries. “The vision and dedication of industry partners such as the CGA connect our students to their future careers in a meaningful way,” says Bitz.
Also showing their support at the December 4 event were Bill Johnson, FCIS, FCGA, Director of Education & Student Services CGA-BC; Cindy Choi, CGA, CGA-BC Board Member, and CGA Southern Vancouver Island Chapter Liaison Governor; Gordon Chan, FCGA, past CGA-BC President and Rita Estock, FCGA, past CGA-BC President, and Vice Chair of the CGA-Canada National Education Committee.
