The Chargers golf team captured its fourth British Columbia Colleges’ Athletic Association (BCCAA) Provincial Championship banner this past weekend at Tournament #4 of the 2007 BCCAA league golf season held in Victoria at the Olympic View Golf Club (October 21-22).
At the end of day one of the tournament, the Chargers were four strokes behind rivals, the University College of the Fraser Valley (UCFV) Cascades. On day two, the Chargers made a solid come-back, winning the tournament by seven strokes with a total of 614.
The weekend win was both a joy and a relief for Camosun’s Head Coach Troy Dunning. "It’s been a long season. The players fought hard and our depth came through. The momentum from our silver medal last week at the CCAA National Championship really helped us win today," remarked Dunning.
The Chargers finished the 2007 BCCAA season with a 15-stroke lead over silver medalists, the UCFV Cascades over four tournaments. The Malaspina University College Mariners finished third overall taking home the bronze.
Third year Chargers veteran and two-time BCCAA individual bronze medalist, Brad Clapp, earned his first gold medal for the league’s lowest gross individual score. Clapp shot a total of 600 strokes over 144 holes for the season – four strokes ahead of Kyle Hewitt of Malaspina. Clapp also received his second BCCAA Athlete of the Week for his gold medal performance at the championships.
