This weekend, the Camosun Chargers women's basketball team made history by climbing their way to first place in the British Columbia Colleges' Athletic Association (BCCAA) league standings.

Under the direction of first-year head coach, Brett Westcott, the Chargers have a winning record of five wins and no losses – and currently stand five points ahead of last year's BCCAA Provincial Champions, the University of British Columbia Okanagan (UBCO) Lakers. The team's record has also placed them fifth on the Canadian Colleges' Athletic Association (CCAA) national rankings.

To date, the 2007-08 Camosun squad has beaten the fourth-ranked Malaspina Mariners, Capilano College (5), 2006-07 BCCAA silver medalists, Langara College (6), Douglas College (7) and Kwantlen College (9).

Despite being ranked number one provincially and fifth nationally, Westcott recognizes there is still much work to do. "We have played well enough to win some close games, but we are still a long way from where we could be as a team. We have to be more consistent at both ends, especially taking care of the basketball and rebounding at both ends. We are still searching for a full performance of 40 minutes. We will need to do a better job to play with the teams this weekend," he stated.

Heading into the fourth week of BCCAA competition, the team will be put to the test as they face the second and third ranked teams in the league, the UBCO Lakers and the University of Northern BC (UNBC) Timberwolves.

The Chargers men are third in the BCCAA basketball standings with a 3 – 2 win-loss record, just behind the 2006-07 BCCAA gold and silver medalists, the Douglas College Royals and the UBCO Lakers.
