Victoria Shipyard's generosity benefits Camosun students
May 3, 2007
Victoria Shipyards recently donated 10 metric tonnes of scrap steel and pipe to the Camosun College Foundation and Camosun's metal trades programs. The donation value is at least $20,000. Because it's pipes, not flat metal, it's especially useful for hands-on training.
What goes around comes around
Camosun students benefit directly from Victoria Shipyard’s generosity, but local employers like Victoria Shipyards also gain in the long run.
This donation goes around in many ways.
- It saves the college thousands of dollars in the raw materials needed to train trades students registered in Camosun’s pipefitting, plumbing, sheet metal and welding programs.
- It benefits Victoria Shipyards and other local industry by providing the skilled employees that are in high demand.
- It helps build relationships between Camosun’s trades students, instructors and local industry.
- It makes good use of what might be scrap materials destined for the waste stream.
The current hot job market offers many options for successful graduates. To explore career training in the metal trades, contact Camosun College Enrolment Services, attend an information session or visit our trades webpages:
