Camosun students establish a community partnership in oral health promotion

Second year dental hygiene student, Jodi Sperber and classmates Crysta Bouchard, Jenna Monsees and Tina Consalvo won a $2,000 award for their innovative community partnership, established as volunteers.
The award, sponsored by the Crest Oral B Company, recognizes the work the students did last October. For their volunteer project, the students presented a table clinic at Pearkes Arena during Halloween. The project highlighted the problems of early childhood tooth decay. The students offered oral health advice for parents and children while promoting the services of the Camosun College and Cool Aid Dental Clinics. These clinics provide services for the public at lower costs, making dental care accessible to everyone.
In true community spirit, they donated the grant—50% to the class for their graduation and 50% to the Cool Aid Clinic!

Camosun's Dental Health Clinic
The Dental Health Clinic at Camosun College provides detailed assessment (x-rays if needed), preventive care and treatment of gum disease including “cleaning” (removal of plaque, calculus and stain) for people of all ages. The clinic operates from September until June, and has appointment times available for new clients now!
