Co-op & Student Employment volunteers help build a home and hope
July 4, 2007
Building Homes. Building Hope. That's the tagline for the local chapter of Habitat for Humanity and that's what a team of volunteers from Camosun helped to do when they participated in a Habitat for Humanity home-building project in Sidney on a sunny June day.
By joining up with the Victoria chapter of Habitat for Humanity, a team of Volunteers from Camosun's Co-op & SES supported a local homeowner in realizing his dream of affordable home ownership.
With the help of Derek, the Site Manager, the group rallied together and got down to construction business by building a large fence on the north side of the project property. The members' combined skills in engineering, construction and teamwork shone as the day progressed and resulted in an impressive looking fence for the owner.
Overall, the day demonstrated how working together on unfamiliar tasks offers a sense of unity and purpose that can get lost in our day-to-day routines. It allowed the team to interact with each other in new ways and created a new perspective and respect for each other.
Even better, everyone felt good knowing their excellent efforts helped a local family in need.
Congratulations for a job well done by the Co-op & SES Team.
