What is a course survey? Why is Camosun doing a course survey?
A course survey is used to determine your interests and experiences as a student, and it is also an opportunity to give your opinion on course related topics. Camosun is conducting this campus-wide survey to gather feedback from you and other students on experiences with college courses and the learning environment.
What kinds of questions will I be asked?
The survey will ask you about: course content and organization; presentation of materials; access to equipment; communication with faculty and other students; and the assessment process. You will be asked to respond to the extent to which you agree or disagree with the statements presented. There will also be a chance for you to express, in your own words, the course strengths and any improvements you feel are necessary.
Who will see the results? Will I be able to see the results?
The survey is completely anonymous. Only summary information will be reviewed by the Dean and program faculty. Individual responses will not be distinguishable and you will not be asked for your name, student number or any other identifying information in order to complete the survey. General results will be made available through the Camosun College website.
When will the course survey happen?
At Interurban, the survey will start the week of February 26 and finish March 9. At Lansdowne, the survey starts the week of March 12 and continues through to March 30.
Will my class be picked? How will I know?
A random sample of 1 in 4 classes will be chosen to participate in the survey. Your instructor will be notified and will inform the class, letting you know when the survey will take place.
Am I required to complete a course survey?
While it is not mandatory, we encourage you to take this opportunity to express any thoughts or concerns you may have about your courses and the learning environment at Camosun College.
How will I fill out the survey?
You will be completing the survey using a laptop computer provided. Each computer has been programmed strictly for use on the Camosun College server. This electronic paperless method enables us to increase the number of students that can respond to the course survey. Instructions on how to complete it will be given in an orientation at the start of each class survey.
How will the results be used?
The survey is intended to provide instructors with information that may be helpful in improving their courses. Your input is valuable to us in meeting the needs of our student community. We also ensure your privacy is protected as responses are completely anonymous.
Where do I go for more information?
Camosun’s Educational Research and Development (ERD) team will conduct the survey. You can contact ERD or your school office if you have further questions or concerns.
