Camosun College’s Dental Hygiene and Certified Dental Assistant programs prepare students for professional careers in private and community-based settings. One of the reasons the programs are so successful is that our students work with real people—providing a range of professional dental services including assessment, preventative care and therapy.
Does your smile need a health check? The Dental Health Clinic at Camosun College provides detailed assessment (x-rays if needed), preventive care and treatment of gum disease including “cleaning” (removal of plaque, calculus and stain) for people of all ages. The clinic operates from September until June, and has appointment times available for new clients now!

But what if I don’t like dental appointments?
Over the course of 17 years offering Dental Hygiene, and 32 years offering CDA, Camosun College has trained thousands of dental professionals, and helped many more thousands of patients.
“The clinic is a good deal for patients,” says Shirley Bassett, chair of Dental Services at Camosun College. “We provide a very inexpensive, tailor-made oral health program.”
“It’s a safe environment for people who may have had bad experiences before,” says Bassett. “Care is provided by students under the supervision of licensed program faculty.”
The Dental Hygiene Program provides assessments, preventive care and treatment for gum disease for people of all ages. Appointments are 2.5 hours but clients get excellent care and learn a lot about their oral health. The average cost for adults is $40 and may take 5 or more visits. Fees for children range from $5.00 – 20.00 and usually take 1 visit.
The Certified Dental Assisting Program provides preventive care for children. Clinics operate for several weeks in April and May. Children under 12 receive service for free. (All children have to see a dentist BEFORE coming to the clinic. The dentist will approve the services needed. The necessary form for the dentist is available by calling 250–370–3184 )
