Henderson makes final coaching appearance

Volleyball fans from far and wide packed St. Margaret's gym on Saturday afternoon to bid farewell to long-time coach of the Camosun College Chargers men's volleyball program, Linda Henderson.
The Chargers men took the match in four sets (26-24, 25-13, 17-25, 25-15) but a fifth set was played out at the request of the Alumni to allow Coach Henderson to lead them one final time. The Alumni won that set 25-21.
Following the match, Henderson was besieged by the crowd and showered with gifts, hugs and mementos. Henderson was also presented with an award created in her name to recognize future leaders from the Camosun men's volleyball program. Over $2,500 was collected from people at the event and former student-athletes across the country who could not attend.
Henderson was overwhelmed by the show of support. "There are so many faces here tonight that I haven't seen in years—as well as people I see almost everyday. It's a great gathering of the community I've grown to know and love here in Victoria," stated a tearful Henderson.
Ms. Henderson heads to Edmonton at the end of the month to begin her new position as Director of Athletics at NAIT.
Taking to the court earlier in the afternoon and starting off the day's volleyball action were the Chargers women and the Women's Alumni teams. The Chargers took the match in three straight sets (25-20, 25-17, 25-17).
"It was great to see so many alumni—both on the court and in the stands," commented Camosun Recreation and Athletics Coordinator Graham Matthews, who estimated that 300 people attended the event, close to 50 of whom were Chargers alumni.
