Capstone Symposium showcases projects Wednesday, December 5, 2007.

For 25 years, Camosun College has been matching student teams from the Computer Systems Technology program with local businesses. Known as the Capstone Project, the student teams create customized software programs to address a real-life business challenge. In return, the students gain valuable experience that looks great on their resumes.
This year’s projects will be showcased at the Capstone Symposium, Wednesday, December 5, 10am-3pm at the Holiday Inn, 3020 Blanshard Street. The Keynote speaker will be John Sherrah, president and owner of International Technology Integration Inc.
“The students really benefit from this project because it allows them to take the expertise they’ve developed in the classroom and apply it to a real-world situation,” explained Saryta Schaerer, chair of computer science at Camosun College. “Over the past 25 years, Camosun's students have helped dozens of local companies become more efficient, more profitable and in many cases, more visible to the community.”
Now in its 25th year, this Capstone Symposium will showcase the projects developed for four clients, including Writers Web pages, ExcelSystems Software Development Inc, Camosun’s Recreation and Fitness department, and the Parcel Fabric Section of the Ministry of Agriculture and Lands, Integrated Land Management Bureau.
The Capstone Symposium is open to the public. The event will be of interest to people considering a career in information technology, and to employers who need skilled personnel within the information technology field.
