Camosun raises money and hope for Swaziland school

College's World Aids Day campaign a success
December 13, 2007 
Camosun students and staff demonstrated their energy and enthusiasm on World Aids Day by raising over $1,200 in four short-but-intense hours of campaigning. CUPE local 2081 added another $556, bringing the total to more than $1,700.
All donated funds will go to the Enzigizini Informal School in Swaziland—a school that was started by a retired civil servant to provide a place of learning and refuge for orphans who lost their parents to AIDS. Enzigizini School has approximately 50 students ranging in age from 5–18 years. Currently, two Camosun College CIDA interns are working at the school providing assistance to develop a local curriculum for its elementary school program.
Donations from last year's World AIDS Day campaign together with various fund-raising initiatives by Camosun College's African Awareness Committee helped purchase classroom desks. This year's funds will purchase school supplies for next year.

World Aids Day
- Happens each year on December 1.
- Started in 2004.
- Dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection.
- AIDS has killed more than 25 million people, with an estimated 38.6 million people living with HIV.
- it is one of the most destructive epidemics in recorded history.
