Provincial Tuition Waiver Program

The Provincial Tuition Waiver program aims to make post-secondary education more accessible for former youth in care by providing financial support for tuition and mandatory student fees.


Students accessing the Provincial Tuition Waiver Program must be:

  • From British Columbia
  • Aged between 19 to 26 years
  • Have been in BC care for a minimum of 24 months; and,
  • Enrolled in an eligible program at a BC public post-secondary institution.

Eligible programs at Camosun

The Provincial Tuition Waiver Program applies to a wide range of courses and programs.

This includes: certificate, diploma, or degree programs including Trades and Apprenticeship training and many Continuing Education courses leading to employment.

Other details

  • The Provincial Tuition Waiver program will cover tuition and mandatory student fees for eligible courses/programs.
  • There is no minimum course duration, course load, or maximum tuition fee coverage.
  • The program is effective for courses/programs starting after September 1, 2017.
  • Students may claim reimbursement at any time during the study period (a study period is defined as the first day of classes to the final class or exam, whichever is later).

How to apply

Step 1

Apply for admission to Camosun College.*

Step 2

Self-identify as a former youth in care to Financial Aid & Awards.

Step 3

Complete the consent form PDF to validate eligibility.

Step 4

Once your eligibility is confirmed, a Financial Aid Advisor will be in touch to discuss next steps.

*Contact Financial Aid & Awards first if you plan to enrol in an apprenticeship or Continuing Education course, or if you are already registered in your courses.

Additional supports for former youth in care

The Youth Educational Assistance Fund (YEAF)
This program supports post-secondary education and training for former youth in care through bursaries of $5,500 per educational year, up to a maximum of four years, to help with tuition, books and fees.

Youth Futures Education Fund
The Youth Futures Education Fund has been established to provide a grant to recipients of the Former Youth in Care Provincial Tuition Waiver, to assist with supplemental educational funding for expenses such as books, housing, utilities, or emergency situations.

Under the Agreements with Young Adult program (AYA)
Youth who leave government care at 19 years of age are eligible for supports to cover living expenses while they finish high school, attend post-secondary training or complete a rehabilitation program.
