The Camosun College Foundation today launches its biggest capital fundraising campaign to-date—the TRADEmark of Excellence Campaign—to raise $5 million over the next year to support new trades equipment and facilities for the college's new Trades Education and Innovation Complex.

Camosun is the largest trades-technical training provider on Vancouver Island and our Complex is currently the largest trades education project now under development in our province.

The Government of BC has invested $30 million to help develop the Complex, and now, through the TRADEmark of Excellence Campaign, we have the opportunity to ensure Camosun's trades training experience is second to none. The Camosun Foundation has raised funds for over 20 years for student bursaries, awards, library holdings and classroom equipment attaining a healthy asset base of over $17 million. This is a new project for the Foundation and it is pleased to support the work of the college through a capital campaign.

"We are looking for support from community, labour, business and industry to enrich our programs and put the most current classroom materials and teaching technology into the hands of our students before our new facility opens in fall 2015," says Joan Yates, Vice President of Communications, Advancement and Planning, "With the latest resources and facilities at hand, we will excel at preparing students who embrace technology and are highly skilled."

"We are also very fortunate Murray and Lynda Farmer have agreed to co-chair our 24-member campaign cabinet," adds Yates. "Lynda, is of course, a former Camosun Board Chair and Member and we are delighted that she and Murray, such well-known leaders in the construction industry, are leading our campaign. Each of our cabinet members are highly respected, influential leaders representing all sectors of trades-dependent industries. Their commitment to the TRADEmark of Excellence Campaign launches a new era of opportunity at Camosun."

The state-of-the-art Trades Complex, now under construction at Interurban, will educate 2,700 students every year. The centre-piece of the project is a new 80,000 sq. ft. LEED Gold certified teaching facility. It will house Camosun's marine fitter, sheet metal, welding, automotive and heavy duty equipment foundation and apprenticeship programs—all trades with urgent needs for young workers. The project also includes the refurbishing of eight current trades shops to provide expanded space for the college's carpentry, joinery, plumbing and electrical programs, as well as our award-winning applied research services.

The Camosun Foundation's TRADEmark of Excellence Campaign runs now until fall 2015. One hundred per cent of all donations to the campaign go directly to our Trades Education and Innovation Complex project.
