Historians Robin Winks and John Talbott argue that “history is a series of arguments to be debated, not a body of data to be recorded or a set of facts to be memorized.” That approach is central to Camosun’s history courses and each class is an inquiry into how to understand the past.
Prepare for the future – study the past
Small classes let you get to know your instructor and fellow students. Every class has a built-in discussion component in which you and your colleagues have the opportunity to debate historical controversies. Camosun’s history courses focus on important concepts and significant eras – global civilizations, the troubled 20th century. They feature innovative methods – how has Hollywood presented American history? They cover major regions – Europe, Canada – and specialized topics – World War II, Medieval history, sport. You'll develop critical thinking and analytical skills and strengthen your ability to conduct research and to communicate ideas in both written and oral forms. These skills are critical in all employment fields, and will prepare you well for further education.
